When the body is exposed to an overload of emotional, mechanical or chemical stress, tension can become locked into the body’s physical structures.  This stored tension is known as ‘body stress’.

Over time the accumulation of body stress, often experienced as muscle tension, exerts pressure on spinal nerves and other nerves in the body and may result in...

  • Pain

  • Numbness

  • Muscle weakness,

  • Stiffness,

  • Distorted posture,

  • Headaches,

  • Fibromyalgia,

  • Dizziness,

  • Restlessness

  • Impaired functioning of organs and bodily systems to name but a few.

What is Body Stress?

Physical stress usually locks into the body as a result of poor posture, repetitive strain of muscle and joints, falls, heavy lifting, incorrect exercising and impacts or accidents.

Chemical stress includes the inhalation, consumption or exposure to toxic substances, allergens, certain beauty products and chemicals or heavy metals. Chemical stress often manifests as severe headaches, fatigue and dizziness.

Emotional stress can be acute and sudden as a result of shock, trauma or a sudden change in circumstances, or can be the

long-term accumulation of tension due to financial, work, family or other issues. Emotional stress can have a direct and significant impact on the body, with common complaints including chronic fatigue, tension headaches, neck stiffness and indigestion

Body stress needs to be effectively and precisely released to encourage and restore the body's natural self-healing ability, enhance the functioning and communication of the body and improve life energy.

Causes of Body Stress

Body Stress Release is a unique complementary health technique that was researched and developed in the 1980s by Gail and Ewald Meggersee, both chiropractors, and is now practiced worldwide. The need to develop this technique arose from Ewald Meggersee’s chronic pain he suffered from after a bad fall at the age of 5.

Body Stress Release offers a gentle and effective way to release stored tension from the body, thereby activating a process that restores and enhances the body’s natural ability to heal itself. This life enhancing, non-manipulative technique has grown to include practitioners in 22 countries, 3 international associations and 2 training academies worldwide, its global growth being testament to the amazing results achieved for thousands of satisfied clients.

Body Stress Release does not use medication or machines, nor does it involve massage, manipulation, pressure points or energy meridians. It is practical and logical. Body Stress Release uses information provided by the body to determine where stored tension may be undermining the efficiency of the nervous system, disturbing the body’s ability to co-ordinate its functions and perform at its full potential. The BSR technique is extremely gentle and may be used across all ages and levels of health from the very young to the infirm.

The Consultation: What To Expect

  • The Practitioner will take a detailed case history before doing the initial body stress assessment.

  • The client lies down fully clothed on a specialised bed and the practitioner carries out a series of light directional pressure tests to locate the exact sites of body stress.

  • Once the sites of stress have been mapped out and located, the practitioner performs a series of releases. This is done with a thumb or finger with a slight pressure or impulse. This initiates an organised sequence of messages to the brain, alerting it to the stored tension and encouraging the body’s self-healing response. The process is light but precise.

  • As BSR is a process, initially three appointments are made for a new client. Then, depending on the body’s responses to the releases, the client is advised regarding    follow-up appointments.

  • Most people consult a BSR practitioner when seeking pain relief, common examples including lower-back, leg, shoulder and neck pain and headaches. These symptoms are all noted, as they provide insights as to where the tension may be stored in the body.

  • After attending to the client the practitioner explains the relevance of the sites of body stress, using charts to link possible cause and effect, e.g. a person with numb hands can see on the nerve chart the connections from the painful lower neck to the hands.
